History: Amethyst is a quartz stone that became very popular starting in 1800s. In the 1900s, it became a go-to stone for high-end jewelry designers. You will often see it in antique jewelry, especially Victorian. Amethyst was often duplicated in glass and rhinestones, as in this piece. This brooch piece is in excellent condition. Amethyst is the birthstone of February.
